Hui with Te Arawhiti

Members of the Executive Committee were able to meet with staff from Te Arawhiti (formerly known as the Office of Treaty Settlements) last week in Wellington.

The basis of the meeting was:
  • For Te Arawhiti to provide clarification around progress of Ngāti Hikairo claims
  • For Te Runanganui of Ngāti Hikairo to seek further information regarding the expectations and process
  • To update Te Arawhiti on Ngāti Hikairo’s progress and plans
Outcome of the hui:
TE ARAWHITI
  • Te Arawhiti to provide clarification around what being involved in the Ngāti Maniapoto settlement will mean for Ngāti Hikairo by encouraging Ngāti Maniapoto to respond to our request for more details.
  • Te Arawhiti to provide clarification around what being involved in the Wai 30 (Waikato Tainui settlement) will mean for Ngāti Hikairo by encouraging Waikato Tainui to respond to our request for more details.
TE RUNANGANUI O NGATI HIKAIRO
  • To meet with Ngāti Maniapoto to discuss and negotiate the details of our request for more detailed information. Having this information freely available will enable Ngati Hikairo to make an informed decision regarding our future direction.
  • To meet with Waikato Tainui to discuss and negotiate the details of our request for more detailed information. Having this information freely available will enable Ngāti Hikairo to make an informed decision regarding our future direction.
