The purpose of the registration is to gather information about you for inclusion in the Ngāti Hikairo tribal register. Creating and maintaining a tribal register is an essential part of building a proper governance structure for Ngāti Hikairo, and is essential to our establishing Hikairo membership for the purpose of our Treaty of Waitangi Claims. The register will be used for a number of purposes, including:
- keeping in touch with the membership of Ngāti Hikairo
- determining eligibility to vote on any Ngāti Hikairo issues
- distributing benefits to marae and to individual members of Ngāti Hikairo
Who can register?
Fully eligible members must be of blood descent or legally adopted. To complete the registration you will either be:-
- an Adult member
- or an Adult member also registering children under the age of 18 years
Complete Details
Please ensure that you fill out the form fully, you will need to include the names of your principal hapū (if you know it) and principal marae and to verify your genealogy by providing details of your relevant Ngāti Hikairo parents, grand parents and/or great grand parents.
If you are completing your registration online it will be sent to Te Rūnanganui o Ngāti Hikairo, who will arrange for its validation. Applications are reviewed monthly by Ngāti Hikairo Kaumātua with the expertise and knowledge of Ngāti Hikairo whakapapa. If you are unsure of your whakapapa we ask that you supply copies of any support documentation available, i.e. Māori Land Court records, information on land blocks, marriage certificates etc. [These documents are only required should you be unclear about whether you are of Ngāti Hikairo descent]. We ask that you provide a current email address so that confirmation of your membership can be sent with your Ngāti Hikairo Register number.

Please be assured that the information gathered by this form will only be used for tribal purposes – it will not be sold, made available to any other agency, or misused in any way. This form, and the electronic database in which the information will be stored, will be kept secure and will only be made available to authorised persons for purposes associated with the governance of Te Rūnanganui o Ngāti Hikairo. Te Rūnanganui o Ngāti Hikairo is committed not just to observing the principles of the Privacy Act 1993 but also to protecting the mana of individuals, hapū and Ngāti Hikairo as a whole.
