Progress

Preliminary research has been undertaken over the last 15 years.  In October 2011 we were able to accelerate the process with the help of funding that was secured from the Crown Forestry Rental Trust.

As a result we held a number of Hui and Wānanga over the research period.

1.3.   Issues

  • Ngāti Hikairo are scattered all over the world.  This makes it difficult for whānau to attend hui in Kāwhia.
  • We have understood the need to have hui in other parts of the country.  We are attempting to do this in main centres at this point.
  • Resourcing is an issue as our funding from CFRT finishes at the end of March. We would appreciate suggestions from you as to how we can fund the Wānanga and Hui we propose to undertake between now and October
  • We are exploring the potential of our website to connect with whānau and to engage claims issues electronically.

We are examining how far we can take the website to connect, inform and to support participation of whānau who live far from home.
